Aromantic Cookies for Teachers' Day

Happy Teachers' Day to all the beloved teachers!

Every year Sher will prepare her hand drawn or paint a card to show her appreciation and thank her teachers from her Pre-Nursery class at age 3 to 5.
I believe this is the most sincere way of showing our appreciation as its coming out from her own thoughts and also very cost economical.

This year is exceptionally special as its her last year with her Kindergarten and we are really grateful for her teachers for nurturing her and allow Sher to realize her fullest potential, we decided to do something different.

Recently we were trying out a new recipe in baking which could gives a nice melt-in-the-mouth cookies and what's more, we even added Aromantic into the cookie to make it more flavorful with a coffee taste without caffine and not forgetting they are also rich in amino and calcium.

How is it possible to enjoy Coffee without Caffine?

We all know calcium is an important for overall health. Calcium plays an important role in muscle contractions, transmitting messages through the nerves and release of hormones.
If we don't get enough calcium in our diet, the body will takes the calcium from our bones and this will leads to weakening of the bones or even osteoporosis.

Aromantic is made from a variety of premium herbs. It contains Pearl, Bee Pollen, Barley and Pumpkin Flower. It is rich in amino acids, phytochemicals and calcium that are easily absorbed by the body. This delightful beverage with an aroma of coffee smell ! (which comes from the roasting of the barley) is a convenient source of nutrition for those who do not get enough amino acids and calcium in their diets.

Pearl
Pearl is rich in calcium and may help to improve skin condition and the digestive system.

Bee Pollen
Bee Pollen is rich in amino acids, which provide nutrition needed by growing children and for immunity against bacteria and viruses. Aromantic uses bee pollen from a single type of flower, lowering the risk of allergy. The bee pollen in Aromantic is concentrated and professionally processed to remove its indigestible shell.

Barley
Barley is high in amino acids, vitamins, protein, carbohydrates, minerals and beta-glucan. Beta-glucan promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria in the colon and helps prevent absorption of fats and cholesterol in the intestine. Barley can be roasted to obtain more nutrients.

Pumpkin Flower

Pumpkin Flower is rich in carotene. It may be effective against conditions such as insomnia, high blood pressure and stroke. It can also improve heart function.

What other ways can you do with Aromantic?

Aromantic can be enjoy as a beverage by itself, added in to bake coffee pancake, cookies etc.
Stay tuned for Aromantic Cookies!! (& how Sher makes them for her Teacher's Day gifts Aromantic Cookie Making)

Extra Excellence Features in the website of Top 10 of Malaysia

Extracted from:
http://top10malaysia.com/home/index.php/special-features/extra-excel-m-sdn-bhd

Top 10 of Malaysia speaks to Dr Jau-Fei Chen, founder of Extra EXCEL (M) Sdn Bhd on her extensive research in preventive healthcare
Many of us may not have heard about Nutritional Immunology, but E.Excel International aims to create more awareness on this area of medical science that advocates a nutritious diet to strengthen the immune system and prevent diseases.
“Nutritional Immunology is a science that studies how proper nutrition, through plant-based, whole-foods diet, enhances the human immune system and its related functions,” says Dr Jau-Fei Chen, founder of E.Excel International, a leading manufacturer and distributor of plant food products in the world.
“The healthcare industry today is more ‘reactive’ where people usually visit a doctor only when they are ill. Nutritional Immunology is more pre-emptive as it emphasizes prevention over cure,” says Dr Chen.
“Nutritional Immunology research on the human immune system and plant foods shows that the immune system specifically requires three types of disease-fighting nutrients to function properly – antioxidants, phytochemicals and polysaccharides,” explains Dr Chen.

According to her, these disease-fighting nutrients are only available in plant foods and cannot be produced in a lab. Therefore it is best to feed the body with a variety of nutrients by having a balanced and healthy diet.
She adds, “When our body is deprived of essential nutrients, our immune system weakens and loses its ability to ward off the potential causes of poor health. Because most health problems are present in our bodies long before they exhibit any symptom, nothing can take the place of a healthy immune system.

“Insufficient knowledge, unhealthy living habits and an imbalanced diet can contribute to suppressed immune functions. At peak performance, however, our immune system – along with stress reduction, adequate sleep and moderate exercise - can overcome constant attacks from environmental pollutants and toxins, avoiding many
illnesses.”

At the tender age of 15, Dr Jau-Fei Chen was accepted into Brigham Young University in the US where she was introduced to Immunology and Microbiology. This marked the beginning of Dr Chen’s career in cancer research that spanned 10 years. During that time Dr Chen met a terminally ill cancer patient who was using a voice recorder to leave messages for her young kids for events like their graduation and wedding ceremony since she wouldn’t be around for long.
“That moving encounter made me question whether I was on the right track in my research work because the development of cancer treatment drugs takes years to complete,” says Dr Chen.
“We needed a drug that could end the pain and misery of cancer patients, and we needed it fast. Moreover these drugs often have toxic side effects,” she adds. It was then that she decided to shift her focus to cancer prevention instead, which is a more proactive way to address poor health issues.
To realize her goal of advocating preventive healthcare, Dr Chen established E.Excel International in 1987. Its goal was to make breakthroughs in better healthcare through research on plant foods and the advancement of Nutritional Immunology. However E.Excel International’s first few years in operations were not a bed of roses as Nutritional Immunology was met with skepticism when it was first introduced in 1987. However, through efforts by E.Excel International, today Nutritional Immunology is an internationally recognized science. To support the growth of Nutritional Immunology, Dr Chen established the Jau-Fei Chen Scholarship and Research Endowment in 1997 that offers scholarships to Immunology students.
Because of her contributions as scientist and entrepreneur in the field of Nutritional Immunology, Dr Chen has received numerous awards, the most memorable of which was in 1997 when she was named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Americans by the US Junior Chamber of Commerce. She was the first person of Chinese descent to win this award of which past recipients include Theodore Roosevelt, John F Kennedy, Gerald Ford, Bill Clinton and Henry Ford.
Today, E.Excel International continues to make a positive difference in people’s health and life. Its name, “E.Excel” which stands for “Extra Excel” is a reflection of what the company stands for - to continuously seek excellence and perfection in all it does. With this as a benchmark, all of E.Excel International’s products comply with international quality standards and therefore only the finest plant food products carry the E.Excel name. Through its manufacturing facilities in Shanghai, Singapore and the United States, E.Excel International’s products are available in more than 10 countries across Asia, Europe and the United States. The company aims to continue expanding aggressively in Asia.
“Mother Teresa once said that we cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love. Sharing the knowledge of Nutritional Immunology with the world is my small way of making a difference in people’s lives so that they can enjoy healthier, longer lives. My dream of a disease-free world drives me to champion good health for all,” says Dr Chen.

Bugs bite from school on 24th Apr '15

Missy came home with multiple bug bites all over her face and eye area after school on Friday and we have no idea how did she get it as we have checked with the teacher and apparently she is the only unfortunate one.

It seems harmless as she doesn't complain of any pain or itch but it does causes her self confidence level to shaken as Missy wanted to give her favourite ballet class a miss. Grandma managed to convince Missy to still go ahead with the class despite the bites showing so prominently on her face .

Armed with the knowledge on Nutritional Immunology, I looked at this as a form of allergy that flared up from the bites from some unknown bugs so I gave her a pellet of Orchestra to take in the evening.

The allergy reaction had come down by 3rd day without any medication!
Our immune systems is truly our body's best doctor. By nourishing our immune systems with the right nutrients, our body will be able to do the cleansing process more effectively on its own.

Sher recover from Fever & Food Poisoning within a day

Sher looked tired and pale after school dismissed on 9-Apr'15 and it was the first time she ever commented that she wants to go home immediately. Usually she would want to spend some time at the playground before heading back home.

After 2 spoons of porridge, Sher had no appetite and shortly after she throw out everything and seems lethargic. Went in for a short nap and wakes up with a fever of 38.8deg and as she has abdominal pain, nausea and weak. Poor Missy just kept crying as she doesn't know how to express her discomfort only to point to her tummy and says pain.

So I gave her a pack of Millennium and Orchestra at 2.30pm. I went to check on her temperature and it seems to come down slightly and Missy throw out again about 4pm. Her fever had come down to normal within 2hrs.

It was till then Sher was able to have a good nap till evening time and that was a really good recuperating period for her for she was back to her lively and jovial self after she woke up.

That was the amazing functions of our immune systems that by nourishing them well with the correct nutrients, we can recover very fast.

3 simple steps to read food labels the right way

How can we be a smart consumer? Start by learning how to read the food labels in 3 simple ways.

1. Look for the manufacturer and distributor if they are of the same company.

Choosing a product that is manufactured and distributed by the same company ensures the accountability of the company; steers in the direction towards safe and quality products.

Example: A product is manufactured by ABC company and distributed by DEF company; if you have any query or issues, which company do we look for?

2. Look out for the ingredients

The importance of choosing the right nutrients can nourish and step up our immune system. Hence it is crucial to ensure that the ingredients listed are wholesome over synthetic / man-made vitamins & minerals. The sequential of the ingredients listed also indicates the proportion of the ingredients that goes into the making.

How do we know what's wholesome and what is not?
Let's look at a simple analogy

Which part of the car do you think is the most important? Is it the engine, tyre or steering wheel?
In fact, every part of the car is very important. We cannot simply drive the car with just a steering wheel or an engine.

So let's apply the analogy back to the example.

The top label with wholesome ingredients which is naturally rich in folate and other nutrients; like broccoli, asparagus, carrot which is considered as a whole car.

The bottom label with synthetic supplements like Vitamin C with Ascorbic Acid which is in its supplemental form. Do you even consider them as a whole car?

So which label would you choose?

3. Barcode

Barcode is the identity of the product which bears their manufacturing details and stringent tests that it has gone through.

So now you know how to read the labels the right way in 3 easy steps, let's be a wiser consumer from today and start to look for wholesome food to nourish your body with the right nutrients.

Testimony on Sore Throat

Sher's teacher was sick and had to take a day rest and having learnt that she had lost her voice, my heart totally goes out to Sher's teacher. Having to lose your voice and not able to talk is really depressing and especially when you are in the teaching profession. I could totally relate to this as I, myself had lost my voice twice in 6months and even with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications etc, there's no way my voice could ever be back almost instantly.

Hence, having know how through nourishing the body with the correct nutrients could help in speedy recovery, I suggested to get her to try Orchestra as it is excellent in anti-viral & she was open to give it a shot.

The following morning, Sher's teacher was so thankful to me that she shared with me after drinking the Orchestra, there was a soothing sensation in her throat and almost as immediately, her voice was back as normal again. All the children in the class were in awe and screamed, shouting that her voice is back!!

This is really amazing and it really makes my day :)

How did a working mum embark on the science of nutritional immunology?

As  a working mum, it's always a challenge to balance between family and work. Especially when my daughter is sick, there are tons of projects and deadlines to meet, posed to be both mentally and physically staining.

Throughout my daughter's first 4years of childhood, Sher had been hospitalised once and 3 cases of high fever.

If you were with me back in 2010, you would have felt the sense of helplessness i had. Sher was only 8months old, had a sudden fever, diarrhea and was crying non-stop in the middle of the night. She was not taking any feed for almost 2 days and show no signs of recovering after a visit to the GP. So we decided to bring her to see the PD and blood test shown she was diagnosed with salmonella infection. Symptoms include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Immediate arrangement was made to be hospitalised as there were signs of dehydration and had to be put on drips. Thankfully, Sher was recovering well & was discharged on the 3rd day. During these 3days, i had to get my colleague to cover my work while i also brought work to the hospital & taking care of Sher at the same time.

So far Sher was in good hands until Feb 2013, she was having a high fever and i have to leave her under the care of my mother as i need to be away for a day trip for business.

As a mother, all i could do when my daughter was sick is to call home and asked my mom if my daughter is okay. I could not monitor her temperature every hourly and be there to take care of her personally. That evening when i reached Singapore and called home, i was told her fever had shot up very high and they are on the way to the A&E at KKH. I had to take a cab down to meet them at the hospital. We were at the A&E till almost 4am to ensure her fever had subsided before we could go home. I had to apply for urgent leave the next day as i was too exhausted to go to work.

Fast forward to Feb 2014, Sher was recovering from a bout of high fever, cough and runny nose when I had to travel for business trip again. On the day i was about to fly back, i had called home and was informed her condition had taken for the worst. I had to make several phone calls to arrange for my parents to bring my daughter to meet me at the clinic. Again, i have to take a cab and rush down the moment i touched down Singapore.

During these periods, I had made many trips shuttling between GPs, PD, A&E and even tried traditional Chinese medicines (TCM). I had to prepare the medications in syringes in the morning before going to work and keep them in the fridge as my mom couldn't read the fine print on the syringe and we were worried about overdose of medications. I even had to do up a chart to keep track of the medications Sher had to take in the morning, afternoon and evening. Sher was even tasked to help my mom to monitor and put a tick in the box. Imagine at 4year old, she is able to read the names of the medicines she is taking and its purposes.

To add on, from May to July 2014, Sher had a series of ulcers outbreak in her mouth and had to be sent home for observations almost every week as the school were worried about HFMD.

However, every time when I visited the doctor to get the clearance letter to state that she is fit to go back to school, I never had a clear answer to my queries, Does she has HFMD?

I spoke to a friend whom is a scientist, GPs, PD and even the pharmacist, I get mixed replies like Oh, its not HFMD as she do not complaint of any pain, discomforts, no blisters etc. Some replied its very mild HFMD as its not full blown with the blisters.

As a mother, I refused to believe that she has HFMD as its only ulcers (and nothing else!). While I understand there is no medications for this, I just wanted something that could prevent her from having this ulcers outbreak. Recommendations include taking Vitamins B, C with Zinc etc that could boost her immune system do not help at all.

What make it worst is that while caring for her, I also fall sick consecutively and I lost my voice twice in 6 months! I was so sick of falling sick. By May 2014, I have already used up all the medical claims for the entitlement in the whole year.

Any parents reading this can relate what i was going through during these period?

After her first high fever in 2013, her respiratory systems becomes very sensitive and we have to be careful with what she eats. A visit to the ENT specialist and a skin prick test shows negative and recommendations include taking anti allergy medications like Zytec and nasal sprays - Nasonex every day.
I read the labels that nasal spray contains corticosteroid and prolong period of usage will cause side effects such as slowed growth in children.

I have expressed my concern to my PD and ENT specialist, but the answers were tantamount; "don't worry, its not harmful as the dosage were relatively low, the child will outgrow hopefully."
Feeling despair, I decided to stop the recommendations, follow ups with ENT specialists and follow my own instinct that medications is not helpful as it only a suppressant. Sensitive respiratory system is not life threatening and I choose to be more careful of her diet and lifestyle.

Fortunately through my friend, Anlinna from wholesome superfood introduced the science of nutritional immunology to me.

I truly agree that there is a wisdom in the science of Nutritional Immunology, that the only way to stay healthy is through nutritional immunology lifestyle, nourishing our immune system with the correct nutrients from wholesome plant food.

What saved my daughter's medical fees?

This is only part of the medications that I kept at my house, not forgetting I have another set to prepare at my mom's place.

My family and I have benefitted greatly from this wonderful science. My daughter is healthier now and ulcer outbreak has come down tremendously and stopped. Recovery period is also shorter and faster. We haven't seen a doctor since Jul'14. I'm very happy to say that her days of missing from school are a past. I have also learnt to be a wiser consumer, giving my family what is really good for them.

I hope through my sharing, more parents here would be able to learn about the science of nutritional immunology lifestyle and enable their child to grow up healthy and unlease their potential & capabilities.

What is Nutritional Immunology?

Nutritional Immunology or immunonutrition, is the science that studies the link between the food we eat and our immune system.

Everyone of us are born with the best doctor in the world - our immune system. By nourishing our body with the essential nutrients, we can have a healthy immune system, thereby can prevent or combat diseases like cancer, diabetes, influenza and live longer.

Such foods can help us recover faster without the use of medications when we fall ill.
Our body will also be able to perform the functions of defence, cleanse & repair more effectively.

Nutritional Immunology advocates on prevention is better than cure and focus on strengthening the immune system by consuming wholesome plant based food which is rich in Antioxidants, Phytochemicals & Polysaccharides to protect our body from the harmful effects of the free radicals, unhealthy lifestyle and diets in everyday life.
What are all these nutrients and why are they so important to us?

Antioxidants are compounds that can prevent body cell damages through oxidation and slow down aging and also anti-inflammatory agents to reduce the severity of arthritis and bronchitis.

Phytochemicals gives fruits and vegetables their colour, flavour and aroma. Phytochemicals protect these plants from sunlight and to ensure their survival, processes enormous healing properties to nourish and boost the immune system.

Polysaccharides are long chains of sugars found commonly in mushrooms, increases natural killer  (NK) cells activities by 38 to 49 times, which prevents healthy cells or benign tumours from becoming malignant.

Nutritional Immunology not only supports taking the plant food in their wholesome form, but also how the processes of plant foods like the plant species and parts, harvesting time and processing procedures, plant parts to retain its optimum quality and quantity of antioxidants, phytochemicals and polysaccharides.
Examples: ginseng berry has 4 times more immunity supporting ginsenosides as compared to the roots which we are more familiar with? Banana has more nutritious value when they are ripen on the trees rather than we picked them while they are green and get transported to our table? Grape seeds which we always discard has OPC (oligomeric procyanidins) is effective against heart and retinal diseases.

Thanks to Nutritional Immunology, we now have a better understanding of proper nourishing through plant foods, prolonging the length and quality of lives is not impossible but achievable!

Welcome To Super Whole Food

Welcome to Super Whole Food where i will journal about the Science of Nutritional Immunology, how our family has benefit from this wonderful science, Wholesome plant food (Super food) and many more....
